ABOUT •
Colina van Bemmel (Nieuwegein, 1992) is an artist and filmmaker based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She graduated from ArtEZ University of the Arts in Fine Arts (2015) and her work has been shown and collected by numerous institutions and platforms. Colina expanded her artistic practice in the film industry, exploring narrative, temporal, and collaborative dimensions of her work. After the release of her documentary Waves of Burlesque (2023), she returned to her studio, embracing slower, more embodied forms of making.
Colina van Bemmel is interested in a beyond-human perspective, an ecology in which we can reconnect with larger rhythms of life. Her art practice explores this dynamic between the personal and the universal through symbolism and material transformation. Drawing from nature, mystery traditions, and evolving technologies, she explores layers of reality we can sense but not always name.
Her theoretical research examines the role of art in a post-secular society. As we seek new ways of re-enchantment and meaning, she invites a reconnection with what lies beyond objectivity, while examining the tensions this evokes within contemporary cultural paradigms.
