ABOUT •
Colina van Bemmel (Nieuwegein, 1992) is an artist and filmmaker based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She graduated from ArtEZ University of the Arts (2015), and her work has been shown and collected by various institutions and platforms.
Colina's work begins with an instinct she has trusted for a long time: to follow the visceral, unrationalized part of herself over the version expected to be legible, measured and definable. That instinct extends beyond the body: to landscapes, to cells, to whatever goes on creating itself long after we're here to name it.
What she is chasing is a particular feeling: the stillness of eternity while everything keeps moving. For some, this is an opening into re-enchantment; for others, an unsettling confrontation with how little control we have. Colina explores this tension between the personal and the universal, working with intuitive symbolism and experimental material processes.
Her theoretical research examines art's role in a post-secular society, seeking reconnection with a beyond-human perspective amid the friction this creates within contemporary culture.
